The Royal Hotel is a beautiful Victorian building and it is situated at the top of Tain High Street. Tain is Scotland's oldest Royal Burgh.

It was the well known architect Andrew Maitland of Keith, Banffshire who designed this beautiful building. His firm A.Maitland and Sons became familiar faces in Tain and Andrew Maitland has designed a number of local buildings of interest. These buildings include Mansfield Castle Hotel (formerly Mansfield Hotel), the Parish Church and the Tudor Gabled shops on the high street (see Charlie's drawing of M A Forbes Jewellers to see an example).
